Pifanização: Processo de construção de um território musical.

Abstract

Pífano bands, or cabaçal, are considered as one of the most representative and genuine cultural manifestations of Brazilian Northeast. Their music expresses a plurality that comes from the ethnic miscegenation which characterizes Brazilian people. This article presents the concept of pifanização created based on an ethnological research about the band São Sebastião, in the district of São José de Piranhas, high backlands of Paraíba. The general objectives of the research consist in a search for the identitarian characteristics that constitutes the musical territory44 of this cabaçal band, parting from the delineation of its performance ield and its repertoire: the pifanização. The methodological support was created based on a wide bibliographic study that contemplated ethnomusicology, anthropology, philosophy and related areas. In addition to a bibliographic research, the investigation was founded upon a ield research with participant observation, where happened the collection of sound recordings, photos and videos, as well as the application of a questionnaire interview for the band members and their audience, what was used for discursive analyses. Therefore, what is put in evidence is the ethnographical singularity of this cabaçal band.
