Abstract

The chronological temporal perspective, linked to life, can be perceived in various ways, depending on how the individual analyzes each lost minute. In this context, it is possible to associate the symbolism of time with the waters of a river, as with each lost moment, the flow of the waters transforms and modifies its surroundings. Therefore, the course of the waters of the rivers directly allude to the time that flows over our lives. Thus, considering this symbology presented, we aim to investigate how the discourse of time is materialized in the work "O tempo é um rio que corre" by contemporary writer Lya Luft. Additionally, we highlight the following specific objectives: discussing the role of time in the highlighted work; analyzing the constructs of water in the discourse of time in Lya Luft's work; elucidating how time is refracted from the luftian universe when compared with water. Our theoretical framework is based on the studies of Bauman (2010); Charaudeau (2008); Zolin (2005, 2021); Foucault (2010); Bachelard (2013); Chevalier and Gheerbrant (2009); Maingueneau (1997); Orlandi (2007), among others. In this sense, we conducted a bibliographic research, as it was based on the use of already published content and data, with a descriptive-interpretive approach and qualitative analysis. Our results indicate that each human being has a unique and intimate perception of time. In the case of the work in question, the author demonstrates a different understanding of the temporal construct in certain phases of life, relating this perception to herself and reflecting her opinions on the various stages of life, from childhood to the moment of death.
