Abstract

The work sought to offer reflections on the school's contributions to the processes of socialization and social formation of children from a theoretical perspective that understands the school environment as a fundamental space for the integral development of students. The school has increasingly become an environment dedicated to the care and education of children and young people, as it is in this institution that individuals build new bonds, including one of the first outside the family. Thinking about the need for intellectual development and the cognitive, emotional, sensory and social capabilities required by today's society, we can understand that education is a key part of the socialization processes and the formation of citizens in this new era. The school is not limited to intervention, mediation or transmission of organized scientific knowledge, but also influences aspects related to the social development of its students and, consequently, in training for citizenship, as it teaches the rules necessary for living in society. , making students aware of their rights and duties. In this sense, the study sought to understand how the school contributes to the social development of students through activities, projects and programs developed. To this end, field research was carried out, using a qualitative approach, through a semi-structured interview with 6 (six) subjects, 3 (three) teachers and 3 (three) mothers, at the Municipal School of Early Childhood and Elementary Education in the city. Cajazeiras- PB. To deepen studies on the topic, the research had theoretical contributions from authors such as: Meneghin and Mendes (2020); Pinto and Uchoa Branco (2009); Borsa (2007); Rezende Filho and Câmara Neto (2001); Ariès (1981), among others, who contributed to a better understanding of the subject. The research results showed that the school contributes to the formation of the child as a social being through interactions and the internalization of rules of coexistence, as well as the projects and activities developed at school also contribute to the formation of the child as a social being at measures that encourage them to share, cooperate, have empathy, build friendships, autonomy, the ability to communicate, respect and coexist.
