???metadata.dc.description.resumo???: We investigate, in the context of five-dimensional (5D) Brans-Dicke theory of gravity, the idea that macroscopic matter configurations can be generated from pure vacuum in five dimensions, an approach first proposed in the framework of general relativity. We show that the 5D Brans-Dicke vacuum equations when reduced to four dimensions lead to a modified version of Brans-Dicke theory in four dimensions (4D). As an application of the formalism, we obtain two five-dimensional extensions of four-dimensional O’Hanlon and Tupper vacuum solution and show that they lead two different cosmological scenarios in 4D. Investigamos, no contexto da teoria da gravidade pentadimensional (5D) de Brans-Dicke, a ideia de que configurações macroscópicas da matéria podem ser geradas a partir do vácuo puro em cinco dimensões, uma abordagem proposta pela primeira vez no âmbito da relatividade geral. Mostramos que as equações de vácuo 5D de Brans-Dicke quando reduzidas a quatro dimensões levam a uma versão modificada da teoria de Brans-Dicke em quatro dimensões (4D). Como aplicação do formalismo, obtemos duas extensões pentadimensionais da solução de vácuo quadridimensional de O’Hanlon e Tupper e mostramos que elas conduzem a dois cenários cosmológicos diferentes em 4D.
