Abstract

With the availability of high-resolution satellite images and computer programs for environmental analysis, there was a great advance in studies related to the management of natural resources. The objective was to evaluate the temporal data of land cover and use in the State of Paraíba using a series of Mapbiomas© between 1985 and 2021. Statistical treatment was directed to the application of descriptive analysis and regression of temporal data using RStudio©. The use of the MapBiomas© Web application of the QGIS© Geographic Information System and RStudio© as tools to map and analyze land use and coverage provided satisfactory results with speed and precision, as well as simplicity and good quality of the results obtained in relation to other methodologies. It was observed that there were significant changes in areas in the Forest class with a loss of 9.56% in area and in the Agricultural class there was an increase in area by 9.74%. The largest deviations were observed in the Non-Forest Natural Formation and Agricultural classes. The distribution was not symmetrical, the kurtosis indicated a platykurtic distribution, where the greatest variations in amplitude and irregular distribution were found in the Non-Forest Natural Formation and Agricultural classes. It can be said that there is similarity and agreement between the tests used in this work and the accuracy analysis performed on the images by Mapbiomas©.
