Potencial de irrigação e de expansão para o estado da Paraíba.

Abstract

Adopting and applying up-to-date land classification methodologies for irrigation can enable land use planning for sustainable development. This work aimed to map irrigable lands and evaluate areas with potential for expansion to the State of Paraíba. SPRING 5.4 and digital file of the classification according to the Bureau of Reclamation were used to map the potential of land for irrigation, with adaptations developed for the conditions of the northeast region, adopting four classes of land considered arable and two considered non-arable. For the classification and mapping of the municipalities in the irrigated areas with potential for irrigation, the methodology of the National Water Agency of the municipal indicators of the current irrigated and fertigated area and additional irrigated area was adopted. The results showed arable land of restricted suitability for irrigated agriculture distributed over a total area of 520,200 ha (9.23%) and arable land of special use in 738,000 ha (13.09%). Arable land with restricted aptitude for irrigated agriculture was distributed throughout the state with a total area of 520,200 hectares representing 9.23%, and arable land for special use was observed in 738,000 ha (13.09%). The 0- 100 class presented the potential for irrigation expansion in 9,799 ha. In the 100-1,000 class, the potential for expansion of additional irrigable area was 12,363 ha. The 1,000-2,000 class had an additional irrigable of 3,620 ha. For the 2,000-3,000 class the potential for additional irrigable expansion was 2,407 ha (35%). In the 3,500-5,000 class it presented an additional irrigable expansion potential of 179 ha. In the 5,000-10,000 class the potential for additional irrigable expansion was 2,200 ha..
