Abstract

The effect of four reclamation methods and Wo tillage treatments on the production and yield components of rice was studied in an alluvial soil with sodium problems. The tillage treatments consisted of traditional plowing and grading, and sub soiling plus traditional plowing and grading. The four reclama tion methods were: i) water leaching (100mm per week); ii) wa ter leaching + manure (10 t/ha); iii) water leaching + gypsum (15 t/ha) and iv) water leaching + manure + gypsum. Subsoiling plus water leaching increased grain yield in both tillage treatments. Tiller number per m2 was not affected by tillage, being highest when gypsum was applied. Under subsoi ling, spikelet number per spike increased in both water leaching and water leaching plus manure. The highest spike weights werw obtained when gypsum was applied, but they were not affected by tillage.
