Representação social do casamento sob a perspectiva feminina: um estudo geracional.

Abstract

Comprehending the role that women play in marriage is of paramount importance to understand the relational model that men and women establish from the gender perspective. Men and women occupy different positions in society performing different functions and roles, especially in social institutions as a result of their gender. This work sought to evidence marriage as a social institution, which is a formal bond between two people who begin to form a family and over the years has undergone transformations, seeking to understand these roles in the region of Cariri Paraibano, looking at the local reality taken as a source of typical practices for scientific research. To do so, it started from a descriptive research with a qualitative approach, from a generational perspective, in which a sample of 12 women, three generations (grandmother, daughter and granddaughter) from the same family who are or were married were interviewed, in order to apprehend the Social Representation that they do about the role of women in marriage. This work analyzed different characteristics of the patriarchal system present in the representations of the interviewees, pointing out the elements of patriarchalism in the current generation. Thus, the data indicate that the role of women is still a topic to be debated and analyzed since the discourses of women from one generation to another still do not exist much difference, displaying a thought based on common sense, evidencing that the structure of the patriarchal system is present in a visible way in our society.
