Olhai os assentamentos do campo na Paraíba: estudo socioeconômico do Cajá - 1990-1999.

Abstract

In the 1990s there was a multiplication of social conflicts in the countryside and the struggle for land has been the main instrument for farmers to secure their possession. In this scenario and in the context of a limited policy of land redistribution implemented by the State, rural settlements arise, which take up space in the context of family agriculture. This study aims to study the socioeconomic profile of the Cajá settlement, located in Brejo Paraibano, comparing 1990 and 1999. The results show that despite the difficulties settlers in relation to the declivity of the land; lack of infrastructure; low-level technology; non-access to credit at the stage of planting and the lack of a collective organization has been nine years, a process of socioeconomic evolution in the settlement, by the improvements in the living conditions of the settlers, expressed by the increase in family income and in the contentment to work and live in the settlement.
