Caracterização morfológica de frutos, sementes e germinação de mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth.

Abstract

The native tree species of Caatinga require specific studies, in order to identify their potential use for different purposes. Thus, information on morphological characteristics of fruits and seeds allow aid in species identification in natural regeneration studies of degraded areas. In this sense, the objective of this study is to describe the morphological characteristics of fruits and seeds, as well as the phases of germination process and native species seedlings as jurema imbira (Mimosa ophthalmocentra Mart. ex Benth). The fruits and seeds were collected from mother trees in the experimental area, located in UFCG/CDSA, Campus Sumé. – PB. For the morphological description of the fruits, seeds and germinating seedlings of both species were examined 100 units that were selected randomly. Seeds of both species range from oblong to orbicular, with hard, smooth surface and presence of pleurograma; axial embryo with membranous cotyledons and epigeal phanerocotylar The described and illustrated aspects were homogeneous and reliable for species identification. Thus, it can be useful in seed technology works for evaluating physiological quality and natural regeneration studies.
