Abstract

In the scenario found in Cariri, with hot weather, erratic rainfall and young soils, characterized by shallow, the adoption by foragers short cycle that is adapted to these conditions and to maintain soil fertility is key to the family agro-ecosystems. From this perspective, there is the millet as promising species, which can add value to the production and income for farmers, but it is important to understand production variables. The research aimed to evaluate the influence of spacing on morphometric data and the productivity of millet grown in Luvisol in Cariri of Paraiba. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 5m line length, comprising three spacings (10, 20 and 40 cm) between berths in four repetitions. The experiment was conducted under drip irrigation system. It was found that the spacing of 10cm increased production of green and total dry biomass, thus proving that the spacing has great influences on biomass production millet. For the other variables no significant differences were observed. Pearl millet is evident as promising crop for biomass production, with major contribution for use as fodder or ground cover in soil and climatic conditions of the Cariri region.
