Estratégias de convivência com o semiárido: o caso do Sítio Cruz no município de Uiraúna-PB.

Abstract

The semiarid region has always been a misunderstood area, noted for its aridity, water deficiency and the incessant struggle of its people against its periodic droughts. About this conjuncture, for a long time, there was a highlight in the region thinking about the idea of ​​fighting drought through structural works. However, in recent years, the idea of ​​coexistence with the semiarid has been strengthened, through technologies that have been providing greater autonomy to the backcountry people. In this perspective, the present work is dedicated to understanding the semiarid and the coping strategies applied in this portion of the space. Thus, we have as an example the plate cisterns developed by the P1MC program, having the Sítio Cruz community located in the municipality of Uiraúna-PB, as the object of study. Thus, the objectives are aimed at assessing the means of living present in this community and identifying the contributions that come with the implementation of new technologies. The methodological procedures used were systematized, resulting in a bibliographic research of exploratory-descriptive nature. The aspects listed in the study allow us to understand the dynamics of the semiarid and the community under analysis, about the means of living employed. It is concluded that, besides the climatic aspects, local water deficiency is also associated with social and cultural factors, and can be mitigated through actions aimed at water saving.
