Gestão ambiental: um estudo sobre o gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos de uma indústria de embalagens flexíveis em Campina Grande - PB.

Abstract

The growing urbanization and industrialization of the contemporary societies is resulting in a consequent increase in the production of solid waste. Facing the reality exposed, actions of urgent character are required in the sense of minimizing the generation of those residues. The industrial activity contributes strongly to the expansion of solid waste, furthermore, it generates waste with characteristics that present risks to the environment and to human health, requiring therefore, appropriate forms of final disposal of them. Accordingly, the general aim of this research is to verify the implementation of Management of Solid Waste in the Graphic Preparation sector of the Felinto Industry and Trade Ltd. [Felinto Indústria e Comércio Ltda.], in politics and actions of the Environmental Management. This process of management includes the steps of segregation, packaging, transport, prior treatment, storage and final destination of the waste. To the extent the overall objective, the following specific objectives were established: detect the material inputs and outputs from the activities of the Graphics Preparation sector of the company under study; identify and classify solid waste generated in the Graphic Preparation sector as to the ABNT NBR 10.004 (2004) standard; and describe the solid waste management process of the Graphics Preparation sector of the company under study. As to the methodological procedures, the research is characterized as being of the exploratory-descriptive kind, conducted as a case study. The solid waste from Felinto were lifted by checking the processes that promote their generation, namely their generating section, so that they were characterized according with their hazard levels. Generally speaking, the results obtained point to the fact that in recent years Felinto is taking an active participation in fulfilling its social and environmental responsibility, working towards the minimization of waste generation at its source and a responsible final disposal of it.
