O olhar dos alunos sobre o ensino de sociologia em escolas pública e privada da cidade de Sumé/PB.

Abstract

Sociology is an obligatory subject in the national extent with the approval of Law No. 9,394 / 96 and its update by the former Vice President Jose de Alencar by Law No. 11,684 / 2008. It is expected that students at the end of high school may have acquired necessary knowledge for the exercise of citizenship. The study aims to understand the students representations about teaching sociology in high school. Having the mandatory of the discipline, what do the students think about? How they perceive the role of sociology in your training? With the intention of analyze these questions, 02 groups of students, one from a public school (EEEFM José Gonçalves de Queiroz) and other from a private school (Educational Institute Immaculate Conception) of Sumé-PB city were surveyed. For the study we used focus groups with students from both educational institutions. As the basis for theoretical development, we used the theory of Social Representations, in which Serge Moscovici, Denise Jodelet, and Celso de Sá Pereira were the main theoretical representatives. The results on the students representations reveal that the discipline of sociology in high school contributes to the understanding of contemporary society beyond the common sense, and also to build the critical positioning of the reality in which they live.
