Ambiente computacional para gerência estratégica: data warehousing: uma survey.

Abstract

The use of management information systems for decision support (EIS - Executive Information System e DSS - Decision Support System) based on data repository of kind Data Warehouse (DW), has been largely increased. Although, many of the projects that use this technology hasn't reached the expected success. Some of them not even could be finished in order to attend its requirements: to provide consolidated and consistent corporate informations for strategic management. As a work that involves large expenses in development, implementation and maintenance, the fail of such a project results in great damage. This work shows a general and detailed view of the computational environment for strategic management, Data Warehousing, in a generic way, focusing what we believe is the major critical point of success of this kind of project: the real comprehension of its functionality as technology, and its interactions and fundamental features of working, like the kind of processing and the temporality of/in the data repository, the Data Warehouse. Academic and commercial approaches are done, since, talking about a technology that has its habitat on the market, much of the lots of practical information has been useful to the comprehension of the news on this subject. The work also relates the emergence of this new technology, as well as to its interactions with other related technologies; still emphasizing many critical points of its understanding that we found during the development of this project.
