A importância da educação como fator de desenvolvimento local: um estudo no município de Sumé - PB.

Abstract

This study has as main objective to appreciate the relevance of the education for the local development of the municipality of Sumé-PB. In order to report the educational results of the municipality and its impact on the socioeconomic increase, the Municipal Human Development Index - Education (IDHM-Educação) was selected and its set of components identifies aspects such as access, permanence, regularity and lag in local education in the 1991-2010. In methodological terms, work materialized as an explanation for the research objective; as bibliographical and documentary regarding the procedures in the collection of data; and simultaneously qualitative and quantitative in how to approach and respond to the problem. The research has shown a significant progress in the insertion of children, youngsters and adults in the period, even showing that the results of the city exceeded the state, but there is still a great gap between the age and the series studied by the students. As an implication, there was an absolute and relative increase in per capita income, with a concomitant attenuation in the distributive disparities, followed by a reduction in the percentages of poverty and misery.
