Abstract

The present study deals with the evaluation of environmental degradation in part of Paraibano western cariri. located in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil, which for its peculiar characteristics such as soils with low productive potential and highly susceptible to erosion and degradation, associated with climatic instability and the fragility of its native vegetation cover. has been suffering limitations for the rational use of its areas for agricultural purposes. In order to evaluate the risk factors of environmental degradation by agricultural exploitation in the Geographic microregion of Western Cariri of the State of Paraíba, Boqueirão municipality with geographic coordinates of 07 ° 28 '54 "S latitude and 36 ° 08 was chosen. * 06 "W Gr longitude. In this sense, a land use map was elaborated in which 05 land use classes were identified. Soil, water and socioeconomic parameters were also evaluated. Questionnaires were applied to the local population in order to diagnose the producer's socioeconomic and environmental conditions. The methodology applied in this research does not just. An analysis of the physical or biological aspects that act in the process of environmental degradation, but also considers the socioeconomic aspects.
