Uma urbanidade em construção: pedagogias de Campina Grande nos tempos da primeira república.

Abstract

During the period known as First Republic the urban scenario of Campina Grande was subjected to a series of changes towards the direction of the modern progressive model instigated by both the new government and the imminence of the new century that was emerging. These changes would only take effect if there were “pedagogies” that would fulfill the role of modifying the behavior and features of the ancient archaic town with imperial and colonial aspects. The aim of this work is to observe through the media of that time, the newspapers published in the space of the town in question, how and through whom the discourses bearing this “pedagogy” were manifested, as well as their concretization of the “pedagogized” spaces and behaviors. In view of the proposed path, we use the concept of “City Pedagogy” to question the expression of models legitimized by scientific and intellectual discourse for the transformation of urban space, and discourse analysis for the interpretation of periodic journalistic sources restricted to the period from 1888 to 1930. We use the theoretical approach by Michel de Certeau, considering that the urban space as practiced by the subjects who populate it.
