Insegurança no campo: práticas e representações sobre a violência rural no sertão da Paraíba e seus impactos para a agroindústria no início do século XXI (2000-2016).

Abstract

The increase in violence resulting from drug trafficking in the backwoods of Paraiba contributes to the decline in agricultural production, causing rural producers material and moral damages. Added to this is the insufficiency of rural public security policies, which have been inefficient to meet the demands of these producers, in a context of crises and widespread violence in the country. In this sense, the objective of this paper is to analyze the socioeconomic impacts of the increase of rural violence, resulting from drug trafficking and its consequences, in the backwoods of Paraiba. To this end, the methodology of oral history was used, through which it is possible to know the representations [what they say] of the rural producers of Cajazeiras, as well as the military police officers about the practices of violence and insecurity in the field. As for the theoretical-methodological contribution was used the concepts of practices and representations of Roger Chartier. Therefore, initiatives to prevent, investigate, punish and overcome the model of violence in rural areas need to expand and receive greater attention from governmental and non-governmental agencies and society as a whole. Individuals who live or work in rural areas should receive state attention in order to ensure not only security, but also social and environmental justice, solidarity and democracy.
