Cuidados paliativos e dignidade humana: uma revisão integrativa.

Abstract

We live in an age where there is progressive aging, associated with a predominance of slow, chronic and degenerative diseases. With the emergence of protocols in palliative care professionals have gained the opportunity to make the death process more dignified and less painful. For this reason, there is interest in alerting to the importance of CP in preserving human dignity and promoting pain relief in terminally ill patients. This work aims to emphasize the importance of this modality of care in the preservation of fundamental human rights. For its elaboration a systematic qualitative review of articles on palliative care and its aspects related to the defense of human dignity was carried out. As a result, 67 articles regarding the proposed theme were found, excluding those that did not meet the established criteria. At the end, 20 articles were selected, which were organized in order to compose this review. We conclude that various issues related to death still remain taboo, dividing opinions in the literature and within hospitals, but above all it is necessary to guarantee human dignity from the beginning of life to its end, safeguarding universal rights and individual freedom.
