Abstract

The problem of inadequate disposal of solid waste causes a series of environmental impacts in Brazil. The humanity is increasingly consumerist and the unrestrained purchase of products that when discarded in an irregular way and having the final treatment done improperly ends up harming both the environment and the health of the population, in this context this research describes some problems that are generated by the irregular shape of the final disposal and poor management. The main objective is to identify the main environmental impacts resulting from the irregular final disposal of solid waste in the "landfill" of the city of Sousa-PB. The methodological procedures were:bibliographic survey, field research, descriptive Research.Some impacts have been identified as: openair burning;Growth of transmitters and diseases; Odors resulting fromthe landfill; Underground and groundwater pollution;Aesthetic degradation; Reduction of the value of the landand the environment; Lack of awareness on the part of thepopulation in relation to the inadequate way of storing andcollecting waste for Collection. From this study it was foundthe lack of effectiveness of the final provision of themunicipality of SousaPB, in this way it is necessary of theaction of the public power with efficient management, It alsoneeds educational campaigns that show the importance ofselective collection , thus reducing these impacts andimproving the quality of life.
