Abstract

Irrigation is a fundamental process for the development and productivity of agriculture, especially in the northeastern semi-arid region. The main objective of this work is to make a historical survey of the importance of the irrigation and sanitation works that helped the population of Gravatá. The present work has as its study the works of basic sanitation and irrigation built in the District of Gravatá by American Americans who contemplated the region with a project titled "Baptists Paraibanos", who through a one-day fast raised money so that the community of Gravatá, around the year 1981, benefited from the works that would bring hope to the population that suffered so much from the lack of piped water for domestic use, as well as to develop their plantations, which are benefited by the construction of water channels for irrigation of vegetables and vegetables, contributing to the increase of family agriculture that was very limited for those who had lands on the banks of the Piranhas River. The key point of the work was to make a historical rescue on the project, bringing the errors and correct, and that today is abandoned, leaving only the building of CAGEPA and the pipeline network that brought water to the community of Gravatá, being in deactivation due to the drought of the last years that led to the drought of the Piranhas River Piranhas.
