Abstract

The dictionary can be defined as an organized set of terms, words or even words in a language with its meaning in the same language or translation / meaning into another language. The earliest records of dictionary was from 2,600 BC at that time, the Sumerian civilization, located in the heart of Mesopotamia, was already using tablets in cuneiform write to express meanings. In the words of lexicography Ieda Maria Alves of the São Paulo State University, the Sumerian tablets approached repertoire of signs, identified professions, deities and everyday objects, a mean, it functioned as monolingual dictionaries. This research aimed to develop a technical and scientific dictionary Portuguese / English and English / Portuguese aimed at researchers, beekeepers and others interested in the subject. The study was conducted at Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Campus of Pombal - PB. The methodology consisted of interviews with beekeepers in the region and researchers, as well as bibliographic research in books, technical bulletins and Brazilian and foreign papers of the area. At the end of the study it was proposed a dictionary in the technical area of beekeeping with more than 500 words. It is hoped that this research will assist researchers, beekeepers, agribusiness members, academic and scientific community and also others interested in the subject to understand terms used in beekeeping area.
