Perfil epidemiológico de idosos com HIV/AIDS no Brasil de 2003 a 2013.

Abstract

Discovered at the end of the seventies the Human Deficiency Virus (HIV) it s the cause of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, better known as AIDS, a pathology that depresses the human immunological system making the organism susceptible to any infecti on, disease acquired by the contact with biological solutions, therefore, not related to genetic factors. First a risk group was established, but due to the progressive dissemination, today we talk about risk behaviors. The elderly population is affected b y this disease and as it is a fragile clientele, cases of deaths are very common. Objective: To describe the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Brazil in the elderly from 2003 to 2013; describe the characteristics of elderly patients with AIDS and to identify and c ompare the Brazilian region with the highest AIDS rate in the elderly. Methodology: Epidemiological, retrospective study with a quantitative approach, exploratory description of a historical series for the period 2003 2013 in Brazil. With secondary data, o btained through data contained in the information system of the National Health System, the DATA SUS, tabulated by region, year of occurrence, race, age and education, and analyzed using descriptive simple statistics, having as parameter the proportion and as measure of the central tendency, the average. Results: According to the sex, the highest prevalence of elderly patients affected by HIV/AIDS are male, with a total of 8.800 cases, 4.235 being in the Southeast region, thus obtaining the highest rate. Re garding age, seniors who are between 60 69 years are the most affected, totaling 11.695 cases, the highest incidence being in the Southeast, with 5.810 cases. The mulatto race was the one that had the highest number of reported cases, with a total of 2.622 , in which the Southeast region had 995 cases. Finally, the elderly who have not finished elementary school had higher record, 4.202 notifications. Conclusion: We can see that the problem of HIV/AIDS in the elderly population emerges as a serious public he alth problem, considering that the age group above 60 years is the fastest growing in the country, thus promoting the exponential increase of infected elderly, something that already can be observed today, mainly due to the lack of information on the basic knowledge about HIV/AIDS, especially on its prevention.
