Tradução de itens culturais específicos em Alice no País das Maravilhas: tradução de Monteiro Lobato.

Abstract

Translation Studies is a field composed of its several areas, with their particularities and charms, and perhaps one of the most enchanting and also problematic área of its field is the Translation of Children Literature. This paper has as objective to analyze one of the main books of children literature, Alice‘s Adventures in Wonderland, through a translation by one of the most celebrated brazilian author Monteiro Lobato. The corpus used in this analyis consists of the the original novel written by the English writer Lewis Carroll, and a translation of its work by the writer Monteiro Lobato, 1972 version. The translation process is a real challenge for the translators, and when it comes to translation os Children Literatura, this task becomes even more arduous, due the social, ideological and consequently cultural factors. This paper has as main objective to analyze the strategy used by Monteiro Lobato, in the translation of this semiotics phenomena, and the final product of this process. For the analysis of the excerpts taken from both novels, the theorical contribution of Javier Aixelá and his proposal of classification of strategies of translation of Specific Cultural Items. Through the analysis of the excerpts was possible to conclude that Lobato, by using the translation strategies of Specific Cultural Items, had his objective materialized, of bringing the children audience, a simple translation, without stylistic embellishments, a language with an oral tone, and at the same time brought to the reader, the cultural universe, not only English, since the novel is interwoven with elements of the English culture, but also the Brazilian, through the intelligent translation of Specific Cultural Items.
