Ensino de cultura nas aulas de inglês através do filme "Amor por acaso": um olhar crítico para estereótipos de estrangeiros.

Abstract

The studies developed on language over the centuries conceive such an instrument as so important that, in fact, without it, the human being would not be able to think, since all thought structures itself in the form of some kind of language, be it verbal, visual, gestural etc. Philosophers, linguists, and scholars relate language to the very idea of existence, setting it up as the basis for all human knowledge about nature and man himself, although the science that studies it, Linguistics, came to be regarded as autonomous, receiving the status of science, properly, from the twentieth century onwards with Saussure's studies, which initiated a series of transformations in its system of language comprehension, assuming diverse perspectives while giving rise to Applied Linguistics, knowledge field that arises as an application of theoretical linguistics, renegaded to the teaching of foreign languages and that later developed with autonomy in the study of the various dimensions of the language in its interactional use. Thus, this work aims to discuss the insertion of the cultural approach in the English language learning process, as well as discuss this practice through the use of the textual genre "movie", focusing on the representation of cultural stereotypes in the movie "Bed&Breakfast" [Amor Por Acaso], from an intercultural perspective that allows the learner the space of reflection of his own culture and the culture of the other, as well as criticism of conceptions and visions imposed as hegemonic. Based on the theoretical discussions of authors such as Rodrigues (2011), Rajagopalan (2006), Celani (1992), Kleiman (1992), Rojo (2007) and Moita Lopes (2012), we intend for a better understanding of this research, to contextualize briefly the course of Applied Linguistics, from its inception to the "turns" that aimed to resignify its conceptions, in order to propose the reflection of the teaching of culture in English - speaking classrooms as a tool that allows the perception of stereotyped representations of social individuals, opening space for a critical position in relation to them. Considering these assumptions, it is still intended in this research to draw up reflections on aspects of Crosscultural Approach, as well as representations of foreigners and Brazilians in films of the Anglo-American tradition, thus relying on authors such as: Webb (2009), Silva (2014), Brito and Custódio (2015), Bennet (2004) and also Byram et al (2002).
