Abstract

The present research aims to point out some reflections on the construction of the tragedian in the character Oedipus, in Oedipus King of Sophocles, demonstrating the protagonist 's action in the search to solve the conflicts placed. The aim of this work is to discuss the presence of aspects of the tragic in the Sophoclian play, in the light of the assumptions of Aristotle (1993), Brandão (1984, 2011), Gazolla (2001), Jaeger, Lesky (1971), Luna (2005), Palmeira (2005), Schüler (2004), Vernant (2000) and Vieira (2004). Therefore, through the approaches made by these authors, we analyze the elements that constitute the tragic Oedipus character. To do this, we first focus on the definition of tragic, evidencing its role in tragedy; Secondly, we deal with the origin of tragedy based on the definition given by Aristotle (1993, p.39), which treats tragedy as an "imitation of actions", that is, has the function of imitating human actions, and is staged Of an audience. The methodology used is a bibliographical and analytical study. We did a bibliographical survey concerning the theory of the tragic and the texts dealing with the play Oedipus the King of Sophocles. We know that tragedy is the imitation of human actions and life that awakens feelings of terror and pity, and the recognition and perpetuation will arouse in such feelings, reaching the effect of the tragic drama. The tragedy that is the object of this research has a complex action, since the change of the action occurs through the recognition or through the peripécia, or of joint form between both. But it is necessary that these elements appear internally in the myth. Thus, through the studies carried out by the mentioned authors, we try to identify hypotheses that directly or indirectly announce the role of the tragic in the construction of the hero of Sophocles, Oedipus.
