Desvelando os discursos de mulheres que vivenciaram a laqueadura tubária.

Abstract

The tubal ligation is a surgical procedure and contraceptive method performed in women who does not want to conceive children anymore. The present study aimed to reveal the motivations of women to perform tubal ligation. The research is a descriptive exploratory study, held in Cajazeiras-PB with 17 women, who already had done tubal ligation surgery, through semi- structured interviews conducted in May and June 2012. The data were compiled using the technics of content analysis and analyzed according to pertinent literature. The research followed the ethical and legal issues of Resolution 196/96 from National Health Council. The result showed that women were aged about 29 to 39 years old; the majority was married; the income varied from one to two minimum wages; the majority had primary education and was housewives. The reasons for the procedure were the story of high children number, advanced age, health problems, among others. A considerable number of interviewees reported regrets and dissatisfaction by reason of want to have other children with different spouses from the fathers of their children; death of children; physiological alterations due to surgery. Finally, it was noticed that some women underwent this procedure in a hasty way not receiving guidelines for who decide for this surgery. It is considered that through these results extols the importance of discussion about proper female sterilization by health professionals in order to better aware these women to make a decision well planned next to their spouse.
