Résumé:
The practice of physical activity is becoming increasingly common and consolidated in
much of the population, especially in the last 50 years, especially in academies and
cities with squares developed for the practice of physical activities. Along with this
phenomenon, the recent increase in the consumption of dietary supplements to increase
performance or suppression nutritional needs became apparent. This product has gained
fame for its results that are proven by professional athletes and so arouse the curiosity of
amateurs sportsmen for their use, many times without any information. Several studies
have been conducted in Brazil and in the world to highlight these facts. This study
aimed to evaluate the prevalence of nutritional supplements for attendees of a fitness
facility in the city of Cuité / PB. The participants were 68 individuals of both genders.
The instrument used for data collection was a standardized questionnaire specifically
designed for such work and based on the similar studies conducted in Brazil and other
countries including information on the nutritional status, personal information,
education level, consumption of supplements, type of supplement (s) consumed (s),
indicating the use of supplements among other information. Statistical analysis of data
was performed using the SPSS for Windows version 22.0. Anaerobic activities were
carried out by the majority of users (54.4%). Among the interviewees, it was found that
29.4% consumed nutritional supplements, the largest consumption among men (80%).
The most consumed products are rich in protein and amino acids (76%) and fewer
carbohydrates (8%). All athletes reported consuming supplements without guidance of
an expert, that is, on its own initiative, the instructor and friend indication (s). The
results show the indiscriminate consumptionwithout proper guidanceof protein
supplements that can cause serious damage to the health of these athletes.
