Resumo:
Brazil is ranked fourth, sixth and twelfth in the world market of granite, and crude and
processed rocks, respectively. Rock extraction in Brazil reaches 5,000,000 ton/year and shows an
annual 6% increase rate. Up to 25% of the extracted material becomes useless residue, and
representatives of the rock processing industries have been looking for a useful destination to it.
Based on chemical, physical and granular characteristics of this residue, its use as "Filler" in Hot Mix
Asphalt was investigated. Marshall, Penetration and Saybolt Furol Viscosity trials showed that the use
of granite powder associated with HMA results in a higher stability Increase in the asphalt mixture
compared to Portland cement, and did not make the mixture as rigid as the mixture in which the "Filler"
was whitewash.
