Resumo:
One of the commonest problems affecting the population health is arterial hypertension, a cardiovascular disease, whose consequences can be fatal. This condition requires strictly controlled drug dosage to maintain the drug plasma concentration at desirable and constant therapeutic levels, in order to control the blood pressure. One of the drugs most used for arterial hypertension control is the thiazide diuretic, hydrochlorothiazide. In the pharmaceutical market there is a wide variety of brands of this drug among which reference, similar and generic. To production of these drugs are required, by the agencies responsible, for manufacturing some minimum criteria, which if followed, ensure them an adequate quality, so quality control consists of a set of operations in order to verify that the product complies with the pharmacopoeia specifications. This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical properties of 25 mg tablets hydrochlorothiazide from six pharmaceutical companies (reference drug, two generics and three similar medicines) acquired in Cuité (PB, Brazil), by tests described in Brazilian Pharmacopoeia 5th edition. Organoleptic characteristics analyses, weight, hardness, friability, disintegration, assay, dissolution and uniformity of dosage unit. The results indicated that, in general, all samples are in accordance with the parameters Pharmacopoeia. The study found that the reference medicines, generics and similar hydrochlorothiazide available in Cuité (PB, Brazil) met the quality parameters required by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia 5th edition, featuring properties that qualify them as products suitable for consumption.
