Resumo:
Since 1984, researches with the pressure gauge have been carried out at the Federal University of Paraíba, Campina Grande Campus. Until then, these researches were restricted basically to the use of the BRIAUD pressure gauge, whose use potential is directed to paving. This paper aims to present and discuss the results of a campaign of pressiometric tests (51 trials) carried out in a soft clay deposit in the city of Recife, seeking to expand the existing information through a joint research between the Geotechnical Areas of Universities. Paraíba and Pernambuco States. The research used the MENARD pressiometer and its results were compared with results from other field and laboratory tests, such as piezocone and triaxial UU, respectively, which already form an extensive deposit database. The obtained results demonstrate the good performance of the pressure test in the evaluation of resistance parameters of a saturated clay soil deposit. The pressure test showed a fast response time, and compared to other
Field trials, such as piezocone, agree well in identifying the subsurface profile and some resistance parameters, such as Su. Significant statistical correlations were obtained between the pressiometric and penetrometric parameters.
