Abstract:
This work propose some solutions for the three-dimensional
visualization problem of escalar meteorological fields based on grid
datas of the National Meteorological Center (NMC). The propose
technics are based on classic methods of computer graphics. They
process temperature, geopotencial and pressure data at 1000, 850,
700, 500,400 and 300 milibars standard isobaric levels on 12.5° N to
30° S of latitude to 20° W to 80° W of longitude. The floating
horizon algorithm was the technic adopted to modelling visualizing
data that displays the behaviour of fields along an isobaric surface.
The cromatic model HSV has been used to represent this behaviour.
The use of data on a 3-D domain (latitude x longitude x pressure
level) suggested also the implementation of methods for volumetric
modeling. As a result, the work presents also, a modelling approach
based on linear octrees. The object oriented programming and the
C++ language programming was adopted to implementation on SUN
workstations.
