Dipyrone is a pyrazolonic derivative that has activity recognized as analgesic, antipyretic and also is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. It is widely consumed in the pharmaceutical market due to its low cost and to be among non-prescription medicines. The oral way is the most common administration way for drugs. Tablets are the most popular pharmaceutical dosage form because of safety and dosing accuracy, small size, easy of carry, smooth taste and easy administration. In the pharmaceutical industry, the search for quality is intense regardless of the type of medicine produced and quality control plays a key role in all stages of production of a drug. This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical properties of 500 mg tablets dipyrone from five pharmaceutical companies (reference drug, two generics and two similar medicines) acquired in Cuité (PB, Brazil), by tests described in Brazilian Pharmacopoeia 5th edition. The results indicated that the samples are in accordance to the identification test and the parameters established for average weight. The assay test and dose uniformity showed that all samples exhibited satisfactory content of active substance, but there was variation from 95.77% to 103.27% at the concentration of dipyrone among samples. All samples showed disintegration time of less than six minutes, meeting the demands its monograph. In the dissolution test, all samples had values greater than 70% of dipyrone dissolved as recommended by the product monograph; as well as in accordance with the requirements for hardness and friability. The study found that the reference medicines, generics and similar dipyrone available in Cuité (PB, Brazil) met the quality parameters required by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia 5th edition, featuring properties that qualify them as products suitable for consumption.
