Resumo:
This paper presents a systemic analysis of the main causes of traffic accidents in Brazil. The problem of traffic accidents should be considered in a
context that involves social, cultural, political and economic aspects. Thus, multicriterial decision methods are the most suitable for evaluating the alternatives of
improvement and prevention of traffic accidents. The hierarchical analysis method - AHP - was used to include and measure the most important factors in the
occurrence of traffic accidents. Its methodology starts from the principle that a problem must be represented through a hierarchical structure, with the purpose of undertaking a prioritization of all objectives, criteria and alternatives relevant to the problem under study, based on the judgment of decision-making groups that evaluate criteria and criteria alternatives, through parity comparisons
