Hypertension is a common health problem with serious consequences if don’t treated effectively. There are basically two types of treatment for hypertension: without drug through changes in lifestyle and medication through antihypertensives. The Furosemide is a diuretic drug that acts predominantly on the thick segment of the loop of Henle, and is choice for treating hypertension. In the pharmaceutical market there is a wide variety of brands of this drug among which reference, similar and generic. To production of these drugs are required, by the agencies responsible for manufacturing some minimum criteria, which if followed, ensure them an adequate quality, however the information disclosed on this production still leave doubts about the veracity of this quality for the patient. This study aimed to evaluate physico-chemical parameters of furosemide 40 mg of the pharmaceutical tablet form of five different manufacturers: the reference product, one generic and three similar. Analyses of average weight, hardness, friability, disintegration, uniformity of unit dose, dissolution and assay of dosing. The tests were performed according to the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia 5th Edition, 2010. After the tests, was observed that all parameters evaluated were achieved as specific weight, friability, disintegration, uniformity of unit dose, dissolution and assay of dosing. For hardness test the generic, the reference, similar A and C are conform, since the similar B isn't within the standards, which presented a unit hardness 29 N, which is to fail this test. Presentations reference, generic, like A and C for approval in all steps, proved be medicines of good quality, being within required parameters.
