Resumen:
Cancer of the cervix according to data from INCA is the second most cancer that affects the female population second only to breast cancer. The Pap test is an important weapon in relation to the prevention and diagnosis of cervical cancer, but many women still do not see the same with that look. Thus, this study broadly aimed to ascertain the strengths and limitations of the Pap test experienced by women. This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach, using semi-structured script to support the interviews, which were targeted women who were attended in Basic Health Units of the urban area of Cuité in Paraíba, Brazil. The results show that the greater potential of the examination, the perspective of women, is the importance of it to have the ability to diagnose some pathology, and not specifically cancer of the cervix among all interviewees reported that only one examination was to greatest potential to prevent cancer of the cervix. Also identified that many, women do not maintain a good relationship with the professional assisting them, and that this situation will reflect the same knowledge about the exam and its real importance. Limits as some women reported a lack of materials and the feeling of shame, feeling that it sometimes becomes hindrance to the users pass the examination. Thus, it is concluded that it is necessary further action in health education more intensively with character humanized and individualized, with the goal of having a greater involvement and knowledge among women regarding the Pap test. It is also necessary that managers seek excellence with professional training to develop the actions of health education, and always ensure the existence of the material for the exam.
