Resumen:
In the second half of the twentieth century there was an intense and rapid process of space expansion.
Brazilian urban area, causing major changes in the social and spatial organization of
cities. Brazilian cities were growing without adequate urban planning,
expanded their neighborhoods irregularly. The Luiz Ferreira neighborhood, located in the city of
Ipaumirim-CE, is a clear example of this action, as it grew without any previous study of
its location, without planning or regularization, causing several impacts
socio-spatial. Thinking about this question, the objective of this paper is to analyze the factors
responsible for the urban expansion of the Luiz Ferreira neighborhood, located in
Ipaumirim-CE. The methodology used in the construction of this work starts from an approach
exploratory and descriptive qualitative-quantitative approach based on the field study and
application of a questionnaire to the residents of the above neighborhood. Through the analysis of the
research results it was possible to identify that the main factors responsible for the
process of expansion of the neighborhood under study in the last two decades has been
field / city and the price of the land. Since not having gone through a project of
allotment the urban expansion of the aforementioned neighborhood occurs spontaneously and
consequently disordered.
