Résumé:
The expansion of Brazilian cities occurred in an intense manner since the 1960s with the
growing of industrialization process allied to the beginning of the new forms of production in
the field. That aspect accelerated the urbanization process and rural exodus, and it obtained
major changes in urban area. In this context, the research aims to analyze the occupation
process and the use of urban land in the neighborhood of Cristo Rei located in Cajazeiras/PB.
For this purpose, we search to develop an analysis about the current social and spatial
dynamic and the territorial expansion process in referred neighborhood. In general we search
to understand the intra-urban transformation processes of Cajazeiras in its entirety, mainly in
our territorial cutting for analysis, the neighborhood of Cristo Rei. In addition, we aim to
identify who are the main involved agents in urban processes in screen. The interest about the
referred theme is from the in loco observations and the fact that, in the last years, the
neighborhood of Cristo Rei suffered a significant expansion as of implementation of blends
and the construction of new housing occurred since 2009 until nowadays. The methodological
procedure was the bibliographical research and the primary data collection from the
questionnaires and secondary data obtained in official institutions like the IBGE, in addition
to preparation of mapping materials and photographic records related to the neighborhood of
Cristo Rei, our object of study. Also, we obtained official documents related to the municipal,
state and federal urban laws, besides the collected documents about the neighborhood during
the research. We also conducted the exploratory field research through the objective and
discursive questionnaires to the people from the neighborhood with the intention of obtaining
a clarification about the socio and spatial processes that conditioned the current expansion of
the neighborhood. The results indicate that the implementation of Minha Casa, Minha Vida
Program (PMCMV) from Federal Government is among the main factors that caused the
territorial expansion of neighborhood of Cristo Rei. Thus, we concluded that, despite the
neighborhood expansion, it did not mean an appropriate and right urban development for the
majority of the neighborhood population.
