Resumen:
The work in question presents the potentialities of the teaching strategy called study of the
environment as a primordial and necessary tool for the teaching of geography. The main
purpose is to understand the importance of the study of the environment as mediating didactic
methodology for teaching geography and its contribution to the construction of the geographical
view of the students who make up the Secondary School of the State School Professor Crispim
Coelho, located in the city of Cajazeiras-PB . We reflect on the main strategies that can be used
in teaching and geography, emphasizing the study of the environment. We also know the
different classifications of field activities and their uses. We theoretically explain the
importance of the study of the environment and its contribution to the improvement of teaching
practice, in addition to addressing its main stages and potentialities. We also analyze the main
obstacles and impediments that compromise the concretization of this practice and the problems
encountered by the teachers for the adoption of didactic strategies in this teaching environment.
The accomplishment of the respective research was only possible thanks to the accomplishment
of a careful bibliographical survey that was based on the reading and analysis of essential works
for the treatment of the overlapping theme. The on-site investigation of the study area and the
subjects who accepted to participate in the research process was also one of the crucial moments
for the achievement of the results and the success of the study to occur. We acknowledge and
propose the use of the study of the environment as one of the teaching instruments that enhances
teaching practice, showing that its use is real and relevant for the construction of the student's
knowledge.
