Résumé:
This work contemplates the theme methodology of geography teaching and the
methodological contributions of Delgado de Carvalho. Based on his work Methodologia do
Ensino Geographico of the year 1925. It is a reflection about the importance of discussing the
teaching of geography and its methodologies based on the proposals of Delgado de Carvalho
that are so influential and present in the daily life in Brazilian schools, which gained strength
from the introduction of modern geography in the first decades of the twentieth century. The
choice of topic arose from the need to think about the importance of teaching methodology,
highlight how much Carvalho was important in these issues and reflect on other discussions
that contribute to the issues related to the teaching-learning process, teacher training and
school physical spaces. We note that the enjoyment and learning of geography is not only
limited to the types of methodologies but, in the ways they are applied, these issues are often
linked more to teacher training, school structure and other factors that may influence the
process of student learning. The introduction of modern geography in the early twentieth
century meant an important period of transformation and renewal for school geography in
Brazil, especially in what concerns the modernization of the geography curriculum, as well as
of teaching methodologies. The methodological path that characterizes this research starts
from a bibliographical survey in books, articles and mainly in the work of Carvalho:
Methodologia do Ensino Geographico-1925, that allowed to analyze, to discuss, to highlight
and to reflect the relevance of the methodology of teaching, that from Delgado the geography
won with a number of remarkable methods for teaching this discipline. However, it is not
always necessary to innovate or present new methodologies in the classroom for the success
of learning in whatever school matter. The success lies in the set of good teacher training and
good didactic resources, which added to the methodology applied and / or adopted will have a
more effective learning.
