Abstract:
The consumption of alcoholic beverages and tobacco has increased among the female population and in particular among pregnant women. Because of the numerous consequences for both the maternal organism as to the embryo, the objective is to understand the profile, assess knowledge and make a survey on the consumption of alcohol and tobacco by pregnant women in the Basic Family Health (UBSF) in municipality Cuité-PB. This study is a descriptive and exploratory research with a quantitative approach with a sample consisting of 60 patients all lived in the city proper of town. After approval of the research by the Ethics Committee and signed the Terms of Consent by pregnant women, data were collected through questionnaires. The results show that participants ages ranging from 14 to 45 years with mean age of 24 years , farmers were 73.33 % , 66.67 % are married , 38.33% have elementary education , 85 % with family income until less than minimum wage. With regard to their knowledge and lifestyle habits , 43.33% reported being first pregnancy, 86.67 % reported not smoking, 80 % reported not using alcohol, 63.33 % reported living with someone who smokes, and 78.33 % reported being aware of the effects of alcohol and tobacco to the fetus. The number of young pregnant women is still relevant and even with some level of knowledge about the harms caused by alcohol and tobacco during pregnancy, reported consuming them and many are passive smokers. Such factors are usually related to the low level of education and socioeconomic status. So, it needed to implement strategies, awareness and monitoring of pregnant women by health professionals, especially nurses, in the Basic Health Cuité-PB.
