Abstract:
The present work had as object of study the Teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian History
in the Early Years of Elementary School, aiming to answer the following problematizing
question: how the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian history is being worked in the
classroom? And how does this question reflect in the look we have about black people in
Brazil? To answer this problem we have the general objective of analyzing the teaching of
African history in the early years of elementary education as instrument for the formation and
valorization of the black people and the specific objectives of reflecting on the cultural
contributions of the African people to the Brazilian people; understand the importance of
studying of the African culture in the early years of elementary school; to identify the
historical and legal process culminating in the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian history
and to recognize the relevance of teacher formation through the study of the History of Africa
for a quality work. This is a field research performed with five teachers from a state public
school in the city of Cajazeiras-PB, in which a semi-structured interview was applied as an
instrument of data collection. It is important that the teacher inserts in his practical
methodologies referring to the teaching of history, which contributes to the formation of a
conscientious citizen, critical, who respects and values cultural differences and diversities.
There is a need for new approaches, reflections and actions that can deconstruct existing
stereotypes still in schools, crossing the walls and reflecting in the social environment. Given
the experience in the field, in order to answer the questions of the research it was possible to
perceive that the problematic investigated is still slow steps and, that although this teaching is
based on a compulsory Law, it does not contemplate all the multiculturalism of the diversity
existing in society.
