Resumo:
The study has as theme: Reading in the initial years of elementary school. Its main goal
is: to know factors which hampers the reading habit of the students in the initial years of
elementary school and as specific goals: to know the factors which hamper reading,
which are external to the classroom; to identify the factors which hamper the reading
practice which are inherent to the methodology used by the teacher and to identify the
factors which hamper the reading practice which are intrinsic to the students
themselves. This research sought to understand how is the reading process in the initial
years and which are the difficulties lived by teachers and students. For the
accomplishment of this study, it was necessary the use of a specific method which
respond to the needs posed by the goals. The field research provided the insertion in this
context thus making it possible to study it, besides contributing to amplify the vision
about the issues raised here, it also made possible reflections about the subject, which
we expect to favor changes in the school daily life. The data were collected at
E.M.E.I.F. Vitória Bezerra, located at Alto Belo Horizonte, Cajazeiras, PB. The
research subjects were eight students (four from the third grade and four from the fourth
grade), as well as the two teachers from the aforementioned groups. It was utilized as
data collection instrument the interview, which made possible the direct contact with the
research subjects. The investigation carried out allowed knowing factors related to the
reading difficulty which are inherent to students, to the school and the family. However,
the analysis did not refer us to precise solutions, yet it is in the reflection that we are
able to seek for solutions in our share in this process.
