This paper reports the phytochemical screening and preliminary study of ethyl acetate phase of Sida santaremnensis, specie of Malvaceae. The methodology for the realization of phytochemical screening proposal was adopted by Matos (2009), using reagents specific for each chemical group. Were investigated steroids and triterpenoids (Lieberman-Burchard), flavonoids (Shinoda), tannins (gelatin), alkaloids (Dragendorff) and saponins (Foam Index). The phytochemical screening of the crude ethanol extract of Sida santaremnensis and its fractions showed the presence of classes of secondary metabolites such as terpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and flavonoids. Through chromatographic and spectroscopic methods was isolated from the ethyl acetate phase a flavonoid glycoside, the kaempferol the 3-O-β-D-glucopyranose (6'' -1''') α-L-rhamnopyranoside, described for the first time in the Sida. The structural determination of the compound was performed by 1H and 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and by comparison with literature data.
