Resumo:
This study intends to launch a closer look at the Program for the Eradication of Child Labor
(PETI) in order to gather concrete data and do analysis on the socio-cultural and educational
practices developed in its Extended Day, but also analyze the importance of the project to
educators contained therein, to ascertain their professional training, and verify the family's
participation in projects to generate jobs and income offered by the program. It presents
historical aspects of the emergence of child labor in Brazil, especially in the state of Paraíba,
giving reference to PETI as assistance programs for children and adolescents. It Situates laws
and guidelines, such as the 1988 Federal Constitution and the Statute of Children and
Adolescents (ECA – Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente) as essential to the defense and
protection of both. The methodological approach has a focus on the explanatory and
descriptive research, with questionnaires to a sample of 10 subjects who develop tasks in
PETI in the city of Cajazeiras - PB. Based on ideas of experts on the subject researched here
plus data emitted by active professionals, it is possible to expand knowledge of PETI on its
goals and features, culminating with a concrete analysis of social and educational activities
developed in the Extended Day Program with a view to full socialization of children,
adolescents and their families.
