Resumo:
Acoustic information can be transmitted to the deaf, using acoustic amplifies,
cochlear implants and sensory substitution systems. The choice depends on
characteristics and degree of hearing impairment. Tactile stimulation devices can
be used as sensory substitute and have been developed since the beginning of the
20T H century, in this thesis the emphasis is on the investigation of the transformation
of voice parameters into frequency of the pulsed tactile stimulus, in the context of
the speech hearing on the part of the deaf for the Portuguese language. Different
transformation schemes have been formulated and analyzed by simulation studies.
The proposed transformations were also analyzed by vibrotactile perception
sensitivity experiments.
