Resumo:
Computer tomography (CT) is a diagnostic X-ray imaging technique that gives important
informations about organs in the whole body. It is very useful to accurately delineate the
extent of disease in the thorax and abdome. It also allows to outline local tumors as small
as 1 cm. The analysis of these images is an important task for the oncologist, because he
will make decisions using CT scans information for diagnosis and treatment planning.
The first step in image analysis is segmentation. In this work, the performance of some
thresholding techniques that could be used to outline tumors in CT scans were tested.
Initially, tomograms of the liver were used to test the thresholding techniques, but later it
could be extended for CT scans from other parts of the body.
