Résumé:
Cancer patients experience several discomforts. Among the main discomforts, pain is considered the most feared, especially in the most advanced stages of the disease. From this perspective, the present study aims to understand the painful complaint of patients hospitalized in an institution specialized in oncology. This is an exploratory-descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted between July and August 2013 in the clinical oncology sector of the Hospital Assistencial da Paraíba - FAP. The sample consisted of 50 patients undergoing cancer treatment. For data collection we used a questionnaire with objective and subjective questions, whose data were analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. In this study it was possible to understand the painful complaint of cancer patients, from the assessment and characterization of pain, identification of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies implemented for the management of pain by health professionals, as well as the degree of client satisfaction and damage. arising from pain in activities of daily living. It was perceived inefficient documentation of pain complaints by health professionals, absence of specific instrument to assess and measure pain, as well as the care provided by the nursing staff for pain management has been restricted to the administration of painkillers, following the technicist and pharmacological model, since non-pharmacological care is little explored in the clinical setting. Regarding the damage caused by pain, the change in sleep pattern was considered the one that most affects the activities of daily living. Given the above, it can be concluded that pain management in oncology has been a challenge for the clinical practice of health professionals, especially nursing professionals, considering the magnitude of the problem and the subjectivity of the painful phenomenon. . Thus, it is understood that it is necessary to implement strategies for the appropriate registration and evaluation of pain complaints.
