Humanization is defined as a broad set of initiatives and actions proposed to qualify a holistic care , enhancing care as the main base , coupled with a recognition of the rights of all individuals . The study aimed to analyze the scientific contributions of quality care in the ICU during the period 2000-2012. It is an integrative literature review, research mode to perform a synthesis of scientific knowledge related to a specific topi, from summarization conclusions of previous studie .Therefore, there were online searches in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), using journals indexed in the databases LILACS and SciELO. The sample consisted of 25 productions that met the following inclusion criteria : Studies on humanization of nursing care after the implementation of the National Policy of Humanization in Brazil , published in journals and magazines in the area of health, available in full in Portuguese , published between 2000 and 2012; scientific article in the form ( original or revised) , available for free . Based on an instrument made by the researcher, the analysis was carried out and then discussed in the light of relevant literature. The results showed that the journal with the highest number of publications was the Latin American Nursing with 24 % of the sample, which in 2006 won 8 posts in total, that among the regions, the South stood out with 12 published works, which the methodological approach of the study was predominantly qualitative research, present in 16 articles. The productions were featured in a second group: “Contributions of studies” with a subgroup: “Humanization focusing on the actions of humanization." Through detailed analysis, it was inferred that studies on humanization in ICU, present several contributions related to actions and humanization strategies, such strategies help in seeking the restoration of health. The integrative review provides, through the synthesis of scientific knowledge related to that theme, contribute to the development of future research on this topic and is considered of paramount importance, providing a line of reasoning to new investigators pointing directions to be followed by them, from the collection and analysis of detailed studies in the literature related to this subject.
